Defending the Seas: US-UK Coalition Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen Amid Escalating Red Sea Attacks

In response to a recent surge in attacks by Houthi rebels on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, the United States and the United Kingdom launched airstrikes on 18 Houthi targets in Yemen. These airstrikes, aimed at military installations in Houthi-controlled areas, targeted underground weapons and missile storage facilities, drones, and air defense systems. The strikes were conducted to degrade Houthi capabilities in launching dangerous attacks.

The escalation of attacks began with the Houthis shooting down a US drone and damaging a British cargo ship, raising concerns about the safety of commercial vessels in the region. With over 30 attacks launched by the rebels since November, the situation has escalated further due to protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

In response, the US and UK military have initiated targeted air and missile strikes against the Iran-backed militants. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin reiterated that consequences await the Houthis if they persist in their illegal attacks, which not only harm regional economies but also disrupt humanitarian aid delivery to Yemen and neighboring countries.

However, Iran’s foreign ministry has accused the US and UK of exacerbating tensions in the region with these actions.
