High Court Denounces “Disaster Troll” in Manchester Bombing Case

In a landmark case, the High Court recently addressed a conspiracy theory surrounding the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, dismissing claims made by Richard Hall, a self-proclaimed journalist and conspiracy theorist. Hall alleged that the bombing was a staged event orchestrated by government agencies, dismissing the reality of the attack. His assertions led to legal action against him by two victims of the bombing, Martin and Eve Hibbert, who were seeking redress for harassment, misuse of private information, and data protection breaches.

Martin and Eve Hibbert, both seriously injured in the bombing, were targeted by Hall’s accusations. Despite the overwhelming evidence of their injuries, Hall questioned the authenticity of their claims and even went as far as visiting Eve’s home to gather footage for his conspiracy theories. This invasion of privacy, coupled with the dissemination of their personal information, prompted legal action against him.

In a significant ruling, the High Court granted summary judgment in favor of the claimants, dismissing Hall’s unfounded allegations and affirming the reality of the Manchester Arena bombing. The judge rebuked Hall’s claims as “absurd and fantastical,” emphasizing the severity of the injuries sustained by the victims and rejecting any notion of a staged event. The court’s decision not only vindicates the victims but also reaffirms the truth in the face of baseless conspiracy theories.
